Minnesota Club Baseball

10/14/2015 - At Lakehead

Hello All,

The team got back from a eventful weekend in Thunder Bay all in one piece. They also came back to campus with a series sweep and on top of the conference standings. The Gophs picked up a series sweep behind 33 runs and 40 hits. Starting pitchers Marshall Dalziel (5IP) and Geoff Fisher (7IP) both tossed complete games. Game 2 starter Aaron Schwecke tossed 6 strong innings before handing the ball over to Ben Smith for the save. The offense was on all cylinders this weekend so it made it very easy for the pitchers to get the wins the team needed. Each pitcher ran into some trouble in one innings but they were able to work out of it and the offense was there to bail them out. One thing that the offense did that was very crucial to scoring runs was the ability to steal bases and get into scoring position for the next guy up. The offense was not afraid to take a pitch to let the runners advance into scoring position. The guys off the field had their fair share of fun going out and enjoying the town at night. The team is definitely coming together more than in the past and that is really translating onto the field as they sit at 7 wins and 2 losses. The team has a weekend off before playing North Central University on October 22 and then the team travels down Cedar Falls to play a 3 game set with the University of Northern Iowa. The team is done playing conference games until the spring so these remaining games will see a lot of guys playing a lot of innings.
