Minnesota Club Baseball

04/12/2015 - VS MSUM

This weekend Minnesota welcomed in #4 in the country MSUM Dragons for their third conference series. The team coming off getting swept by NDSU last weekend fueld the team to try and mess with the standings and make the final weekend between NDSU and MSUM more spicy. Game 1 was a game for Club Baseball Ages. Veteren righty Marshall Dalziel started the game shaky after loading the bases and getting out of it in the first and allowing two more get on in the second and shut the door once again in the second. After the shaky two innings Marshall found an extra gear and blew past the MSUM hitters. In the fourth Aaron Schwecke dropped down one of his signature drag bunts and once he got to first MSUM sailed the throw into the outfield and advanced to third. Austin RIdl two pitches later drove him in for the only run of the game. As the game progressed Marshall seemed to rear back and throw a lot harder, must have had to get the rust off since his last time on a mound in October.

Game 2 was another pitching duel. Lefty Ben Smith gave up a lead off homerun and then settled down. He was dominent over 5 with giving up 4 hits and striking out 9. Aaron Scwecke had the hot bat in the game going 3-4 with 3RBIs. In the bottom of the 6th newbie Alex Teal hit a go a head dinger. In the top of the 7th MSUM loaded the bases and hit a grand slam to go up 3. The Gophs mounted a rally in the bottom of the 7th but could not extend the game.

Game 3 was one that the Gophs will toss out the window and look forward to this coming week. Minnesota dropped game 3 10-0. Minnesota will welcome conference newcomer UW-Superior to the cities. UW is coming in with a 2-7 conference record. Minnesota will have a 3-6 record and with a sweep even up to .500 and end on a strong note in conference. The Gophs have a busy weekend with a DH against St. Thomas JV team on Thursday at St. Thomas, One game Friday night at Dunning Field at 7pm, then a DH Saturday at McMurray Field starting at Noon.
