01/24/2015 - Winter Update

Hello All,

Sorry for the absence from the site. Our website guy gets really lazy and has really let you all down. The fall was an up and down fall for the team. Overall the fall left the team with a 4-3 record and 2-3 in conference play. The team is looking forward to 7 big conference games this spring and a handful of non-conference games. The team is looking forward to getting back a couple returners for the spring: Sam Elliott, Sam played a big role on the mound for the team and he will be looked on again to bring that dominance again this year. Cameron Hall, he will be looked upon to bring experience and great glove to help out in an already deep outfield.

The fall showed us that Marshall Dalziel is starting to regain form after a shoulder injury. Marshall was named pitcher of the week against NDSU and made a strong case against Lakehead, but was beat out by fellow teammate Ben Smith. Marshall is on top of the conference in strikeouts with 20. Ben Smith has been a great addition to the team. Ben a freshmen has ben nothing but spectacular on the mound. This season Ben is 2-0, .75 ERA and 22 strikeouts. He was named pitcher of the week against Lakehead. These two will be looked on to lead the staff into an important spring for the team.

The team has been lead by countless hitter this season, it seems that each game there was someone else leading the team at the plate. ’13-14 ROY Aaron Schwecke has not cooled off from his spectacular year last year. He is batting .429 with 5 stolen bases. The man behind him in the order Austin Ridl is batting .467 with 5 stolen bases and 2 doubles. Newcomer Grant Vernon is batting a staggering .637 (7-11) with 3RBI and 6 runs.

We look forward to hitting the field once again this spring and hopefully get back to the regional tournament at the end of the season. We loved all the support you guys showed us in the fall and made it fun to be out there. We hope to see you all there again and always follow us on twitter @umnclubbaseball or shoot us an email at umnclubbaseball@yahoo.com.
